Every Christmas, the women in my family, like many other families, get together to bake Christmas cookies.  I'm usually lucky enough to have two cookie baking days- one with my family and one with D's, but this year things looked a bit different of course, and we weren't able to be together.  Nevertheless, my mom and I are still keeping the tradition alive, as I can't imagine a Christmas without these Christmas cookies!

I'm sharing our top favorite cookies and the recipes that fill our Christmas platters for Santa and friends.  What cookies do you bake each Christmas?

Molasses Cookies

Mom's Molasses Sugar Cookies
I've posted about these cookies before, and I have to mention them again here!  These molasses cookies are my mom's specialty, my son's favorite cookie, and just the best molasses cookies around.  They are a super wonderful traditional cookie to add to your Christmas baking this year!

Snowballs

Snowball Christmas Cookies
These are my favorite of the Christmas cookies with the crunch of the rice krispies and peanut butter covered in a wonderful white chocolate.  Better bake a double batch- these go fast!

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups peanut butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 T. melted butter
  • 3 cups rice krispies
  • white almond bark (melting chocolate)
  • sprinkles
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix well.  Place in the refrigerator to chill for 20-30 minutes.  Shape into 1 inch balls, then dip into melted chocolate.  Decorate with sprinkles.  Set on wax paper to dry.

Cracker Cookies

These are about the easiest cookies to make and are the perfect combination of sweet and salty!

Ingredients:
  • Peanut Butter
  • Ritz Crackers
  • Melting Chocolate
  • Sprinkles

Spread peanut butter on a ritz cracker, then cover with another cracker to make a sandwich.  Dip the sandwich in chocolate and decorate with sprinkles.  Set on wax paper to dry.

Peanut Clusters

Christmas Peanut Clusters
I know I said the last cookies were the easiest, but these are pretty easy too.  Another salty and sweet combination that are a simple and wonderful Christmas treat!

Ingredients:
  • 1 bag chocolate chips
  • 1 bag butterscotch chips
  • 3 cups salted peanuts
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, then nix all ingredients together and set on wax paper to dry.  That's it!

Gingerbread Cookies

Gingerbread Christmas Cookies
We had a lot of fun making these! My mom bought some candy eye sprinkles, which my kids thought were really cool! We also used red-hots, which I thought were a wonderful combination with the gingerbread!
Gingerbread cookies are about as traditional as they come and served as the main decorations on Christmas trees for many homesteads in the early 1900s.  This recipe, from Sally's Baking Addition, is a wonderful and chewy cookie that is sure to please!

Traditional Cut-Out Cookies

Whenever I make these, people always ask me for my recipe.  These are soft, chewy cut-outs with a perfect and easy glaze that hardens into perfection.  The addition of almond extract really does the trick for me!  It really is a wonderful recipe!

I'll be making the peanut butter rice krispies balls as well, but probably only a half batch. We love those as well. I missed not having you over this year. But looking forward to next year already!
