Pinecone turkey craft
This cute little craft will be a fun activity for the whole family!  You start out the craft by taking a walk as a family, on an adventure to find the perfect pine cones!  You want the short, fat ones- they work the best!  We used some from a red pine tree.

After you've found your pinecone, you can follow these steps to complete your cute little turkey!

Materials Needed:
  • pinecones
  • paint
  • paintbrushes
  • hot glue
  • red or white pom poms
  • small black beads or googly eyes
  • construction paper

Step One:  Prepare your Pinecones

To get the pinecones to open up like a turkey fan, you'll want to bake them at 200 degrees for 30 minutes or so.  Watch them closely- you don't want a fire to start!

Step Two:  Paint your Pinecones

Your pinecones will become the fan of your turkey, so make it beautiful!  It really can be any color you'd like, but if you'd like to stick with a fall theme, go with the reds, oranges, and yellows.

Step Three:  Assemble the Head

Cut out a triangle out of the orange, along with a red snood, and two black eyes for the beak.  Take your time to hot glue the parts of the face onto the pompom.  Turn the pinecone so that the narrow end is facing you, then place the pompom head slightly on top of the pinecone.

Voila!  A fun craft to decorate with for Thanksgiving.
