Looking for a way to add some character to your house?  I've got just the project for you!  This DIY shelf comes together in just a short time and uses scrap wood that you've probably already got laying around your house.  So, let's get to it!

Here's what you need:
  • Scrap wood
  • Wood glue
  • Saw to cut 45 degree angle
  • Chicken wire
  • Staples/Nail gun

Steps:
  1. We started by removing the boards from the pallet.  Once we got them removed, we cut the boards to certain lengths.  We cut the boards to be 12 inches for the short sides and 22 inches for the long sides.
  2. Next, we cut the 45 degree angles on the boards.  To do this, we used a miter saw, but a hand saw with a jig could be used as well.  If you're like me, you get the hubby to do this part.
  3. Once the boards are cut to angle, it's time to glue them together.  The glue just secures the boards to make sure that they won't come apart.

4.  Now, to really secure the boards, nail them together using a nail gun.
5.  To finish it off, secure chicken wire to the back and staple it on.  That's it!

It came together in less than an hour and is a beautiful accent piece to our house.  I'm sure you'll love it in yours too!
